Groups

A variety of groups will be offered at BRAINS. Some are one-time psychoeducational presentations that include didactic presentation of material, time for discussion, and an opportunity for participants to ask specific questions. These presentations are designed to give participants a better understanding of a specific topic and strategies to use at home.

Other groups meet weekly for a pre-determined number of weeks and focus on teaching and practicing new skills within a social format. Research suggests that learning and implementing relationship skills within a social context helps these skills be utilized more effectively “in real life.”

Support or therapeutic groups are also offered for a pre-determined number of weeks. These groups typically bring together individuals who are coping with similar life-stresses. Emotional support, strategies for coping, and a venue for self-expression are provided.
